Expansion of the existing 460,000 square foot convention center to 1.3 million square feet was accomplished through multiple phases, all while maintaining continuous operation of the facility. One of the engineering goals for this project was to maintain the MEP services transparent to the building use, regardless of unique architectural designs. Phase II involved aesthetic improvements, including a suspended pedestrian bridge, a two-story glass and steel structure that provides a spectacular view of the San Antonio River flowing beneath. San Antonio’s famous River Walk was extended underneath the lobby bridge.
