The Blumenthal Performing Art Center was designed by Cesar Pelli. The regional center houses a 2,100 seat theater (Belk Theater) and a smaller 420 seat playhouse (Booth Theater). The facility also includes the traditional elements found in a performance venue, including: rehearsal rooms, backstage area, and public areas totaling 160,000 square feet. The facility uses 650 tons of refrigeration, low velocity/low noise HVAC systems, shared power distribution, and a fully automated energy management system. It contains 2,100 seats spanning four levels, state-of-the-art equipment, audio/light systems, production and support capabilities, a fully rigged theater with complete orchestra shell, two orchestra pits with hydraulic lift capabilities, and a renowned fiber optic multi-colored light system in the audience chamber.
